So, I’ve got a bone to pick with Santa Clause. Here’s my case: as a leader, he fostered a culture of exclusion and turned a blind eye to acts of meanness and emotional cruelty from his crew. Only when it benefitted him was any misfit personal attribute welcomed (and subsequently exploited). I recognize that forgiveness is a tenet of the season, so I want to do so while also keeping attention on a much-needed reform of the systemic dysfunction that gave rise to the violation I’m forgiving in the first place.
Had the weather not suddenly changed, and had Rudolph not become useful in the resulting acute situation, then his misery would have persisted and that is a tragic thought - especially given the fact that hundreds of millions of kids would have gotten gifts (something for nothing).
When we’re born into a world where the 0.0001% can be treated with disdain and excluded from joy, then 100% of us and 100% of the people we love are at risk.
